Is a "Living Will", drawn up in the early 90's binding today?
What if the patient can communicate?
What if it's contested?
This story is yet another, not unlike the Terri Schiavo case, where families are torn apart as they disagree over the best treatment for their father. The children say keep Daddy alive, the man's wife wants him dead.
He was injured and it resulted in paralysis and the need for a ventilator to keep him alive.
When the man was off his sedating meds for about 10 hours and thinking clearly, he was asked if he wanted to live, knowing the remainder of his life would be spent on a respirator...his answer was yes....However......
