Before I found this site below, the last few days I have been thinking about how many things humans do...unthinkingly...that hurt animals. I was wondering just what sadistic freak invented the horrible method of luring an innocent fish with bait, hooking it onto a barbed hook and yanking it in, ripping the poor fish's mouth to shreds....and calling it a sport?! I once enjoyed fishing...it was many years ago....and I never thought, really thought, about just how horrible it must have been for those unsuspecting fish! I am so remorseful as I think back on it...I was gullible enough at the time to believe that "it doesn't hurt the fish...they don't have any nerve endings there" I'm sorry I ever fished...I'm sorry I ever ate meat...no more no more.....

Many people have never stopped to think about it, but fish are smart, interesting animals with their own unique personalities—just like the dogs and cats we share our homes with. Did you know that fish can learn to avoid nets by watching other fish in their group and that they can recognize individual "shoal mates"? Some fish gather information by eavesdropping on others, and some-such as a type of South African fish that lays eggs on leaves so that they can be carried to a safe place.......more.......>

No one would consider doing to a dog what some so casually do to fish—trick them into impaling themselves in the mouth and pull them into an environment where they can't breathe. But the fact is—fish feel pain just as all animals do.
